RAF Physical Training Instructors Association History

The RAF PTI Association was created on 18th February 1994 by founder members Phil Hockaday and Phil Moyse, Phil Hockaday was member no 1 and Phil Moyse was no 2.

“Both of us were at one of the reunions where we had a good talk about
how the Association has grown and our thanks go to those that have built it up.

It all started in the PTI Course Design Team at Cosford when Pat Corfield suggested that we have RAF PTI dinner functions in the Sgts
Mess; the event became very popular as an annual event and we as a team decided to set up the RAF PTI Association.

Thankfully, due to the golf competition introduced by Dave Percy and a very proactive executive committee together with support of the School Warrant Officer as Chairman, the RAF PTI Association is thriving”.

The RAF Physical Training Instructors Association slogan is ‘Friendship and Respect’, this is the strong theme that guides the activities of the executive committee of both serving and retired Physical Training Instructors and its 10 regional representatives.

The association actively engages with and supports its members and their families through financial and welfare needs ensuring that families are supported during difficult times.

The membership has steadily grown to its current healthy number of over 400 members with annual and regional reunions and activities regularly being held across the country each year.
