Roebuck Memorial

Bold in Strength the ‘PTI motto’ is symbolised by the Roebuck which was chosen because of its extraordinary alertness, energy & physical fitness.
RAF PTI Memorial – 2017
Thank you to all of the committee who have worked tirelessly to organise what we hope will be a great reunion worthy of the Centenary celebrations. These things don’t just happen and it has been “great teamwork” to get us to this point. Special thanks to Ian Kevan for organising the Roebuck Memorial Cycle which raised funds for the Roebuck statue. Also our recognition and thanks to Darrald Jones and Dave Percy for leading on the “Roebuck Memorial Project” culminating in the consecration of the statue at the National Memorial Arboretum Saturday 14th April. Congratulations on a job well done.
RAF Memorial Account – Donators
For those of you on Facebook you may have seen that the Memorial was placed into the Arboretum on the 3 Nov 2017. Yippee, The fund is in a healthy position and I anticipate that there will be funds available to be transferred to the S of PT Museum account to continue to maintain the Memorial for the foreseeable future.
A big thank you to all those who have donated, as previously stated I hope to close the Account and transfer the remaining monies in early Jan 18, so if you wish to donate and be in the book best you do so soon.
Below is the list of those donations to date that I can account for, I say that as there are still one or two that have no name to say who they are from, for instance one is 43 Grantham REM.
So I would be grateful if you could check to see that your name is included as this is the list that will appear in the commemorative book to be displayed in the S of PT. That includes spelling errors or names out of alphabetical order please.
If you cannot find your name please contact be on by Email. (heather.percy@btopenworld.com) or 08962076088 or leave a message on my home number 01952462633.

Dominic O’Sullivan – Update: Scotty’s Little Soldiers

On 11th June 2022 I will ride 2300 miles in 12 days around the UK. Just to let you know that I am fundraising for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, the charity that supports bereaved children of our British forces and I’d really appreciate your support.
My crew for the #RideToRemember 11-23 June 22, has taken a casualty, that requires a late substitute. (Torn bicep requires surgery and careful management for 8 weeks ruling him out)
I’m putting it out there that I need a volunteer to join the crew. For transparency let me give you some facts:
It’s unpaid, just your time required.
It needs to be the full time, we can’t do a swap out mod event.
It involves 2000+ miles around the UK
Crew works as 2 alternating teams, required to drive, move kit, set up tent camp, help with feed and drink resupplies to rider and crew.
Must be physically capable without medical risk.
It will be a fast learning situation as we will assemble on 10th June, no more practice weekends planned.
We are fundraising for Scotty’s Little Soldiers the charity that supports the bereaved children of British Forces and the OPPO Foundation.
It will be tiring, demanding, close quarters environment, subject to whatever the weather throws at us. But you will be fed, watered and there will be the banter and fun too! It won’t cost you anything.
You don’t have to be a cyclist, but if you are and can change a tube, basic bike maintenance it will be helpful.
You don’t have to be willing to promote Veteran causes and the charity is essential.
On a positive you will see some of the best views in the UK with a great bunch of people. You will be part of a high-performance unit, that will have a can-do attitude and will be disciplined and organised to achieve the goal!

Breast Cancer – Karen Eadsforth
Denise Street-Brown states: – I am forwarding this on behalf of an amazing woman Karen Eadsforth , whom I have the privilege of playing with on the Over 60’s Women’s GB Basketball Team – FYI, 4 of the squad going to the European Champs in Malaga 24th June – 5th July are ex RAF:- Wendy Murray (Captain), Flynn Reid, Lesley O’Hanlon and Dee Street Brown.
Karen is fund raising for breast cancer and will also be making a donation to the Over 60’s GB Basketball team.
This is Karen’s “backstory”, she is a true inspiration.
This is Karen’s Go Fund Me link if you or your family have been “touched “ by Cancer and would like to donate to cancer research, please put the reference ‘RAF PTI’ in your message
New RAF PTI Association Standard
A message from Rod Clark Sqn Ldr (Retd) BEM

The New RAF PTI Association Standard.
Finally, and thanks to the members who so generously contributed to its production cost, we have a magnificent new Standard to represent the RAF PTI Association.
For me, the importance of the Standard cannot be overemphasised, hence my initial offer to fully fund its production.
It will now stand displayed at the RAF School of Physical Training at RAF Cosford and provide the opportunity daily to remind those undergoing PTI training of the privilege that they may enjoy once qualified and able to join as members of the Physical Education Branch, the second most senior branch of the RAF. The PTI Association Standard is also displayed at numerous occasions, including the funerals of members, remembrance parades and military route linings, and is lowered as a mark of respect to those worthy individuals for whom the event gives honour. The Standard represents the incredible history of the professionalism of its past and current members, and history shapes the future. The outstanding work of past branch members and current members of the Association, from all specialisations, is testament to the high regard and respect that the Physical Education Branch has gained over the years, and still enjoys today within and outside the Service.
Indeed, I might argue that had members within all of the specialisations of the Physical Education Branch, and not least the parachuting discipline, not been so dedicated and professional in and beyond their operational duties, we could well have seen the demise of the RAF Physical Education Branch altoghether.
I would strongly encourage our new PTI’s to join the Association. You may well not feel that it has any purpose in doing so at the moment but at some appropriate stage in your career I can assure you that once you fully appreciate the camaraderie of your peers within the Branch, and the bond you gain with them during your demanding time in the Service you will in due course seek to maintain those lifelong friendships. One of the principal benefits of the Association is ‘Fellowship’.
The Standard is neither a flag nor an item to be draped over a table, it is the RAF PTI Association Standard and represents its elite cadre, and by definition the RAF School of Physical Training and ultimately the RAF Physical Education Branch.
See it, reflect, remember and respect with pride what it stands for.
